/ About the project

Designing a zero-to-one smart home command center.

We led the end-to-end design of a cohesive hardware-integrated ecosystem from scratch, focusing on democratizing home automation for mass-market users.

Our team worked to reduce cognitive load by consolidating fragmented data.

We identified a market gap where users were forced to manage five separate, siloed sensors. By unifying Temperature, Humidity, Noise, Air Quality, and Occupancy into a single hardware logic, we significantly streamlined the user's mental model.

Architecting a seamless communication logic between physical and digital touchpoints.

Leveraging my Cognitive Science background, I worked alongside my design team to map the end-to-end data flow between the physical sensors and the mobile interface. Our team synchronized technical constraints with user mental models to ensure the system provided real-time, low-latency feedback across the entire ecosystem.

Throughout the platform, our team focused on making high-level technical complexity invisible to the end user. A primary example of this is the Automation Builder, where we transformed multi-variable conditional logic, like triggering routines based on humidity or occupancy levels, into a guided, step-by-step wizard that feels as simple as a conversation.

Establishing a unified design system to ensure cross-platform functional harmony.

Designing a zero-to-one smart home command center.

To support our goal of effortless navigation, our design squad developed a cohesive system of reusable components and design tokens. By standardizing our sensor iconography and data visualization cards, we ensured that users encounter a consistent, predictable interface whether they are viewing the dashboard or configuring an automation.

Refining the visual identity through disciplined iteration and stakeholder collaboration.

This "before" concepts represent just one intentional stage of our team's rigorous iterative process. Our design squad of three engaged in continuous feedback loops with the CEO and key stakeholders, utilizing weekly meetings and daily communications to pressure-test our assumptions. By identifying what resonated and what didn’t through these collaborative cycles, we evolved from exploratory glassmorphism into a high-polish, card-based system that ensures professional clarity and systemic harmony for the final Switchless experience.
